Bodega Cuarto Lote

Nuevo Baztán · Arganda Subzone · D.O. Vinos de Madrid

“Cooling and temperature stability here come from the centenary well and the underground water system built into the site.”

- Daniel Orusco, winemaker

Place & Heritage

Bodega Cuarto Lote is located in Nuevo Baztán, an 18th-century town founded under the vision of Juan de Goyeneche as an integrated project linking architecture, agriculture, and industry. The winery is situated in the area known as Arrabal del Conjuro, a historic setting that forms part of the town’s cultural and symbolic landscape. Local legend and history - including the imagery associated with the traditional vino de gatos - are directly referenced in the winery’s labels and identity.

The bodega is conceived as a working winery with a strong narrative connection to place, designed to receive visitors while remaining rooted in the town’s historical fabric rather than operating as a detached or purely conceptual brand.

Family & Continuity

Cuarto Lote is a family project led by the Calvo González-Vallinas family, with winemaking under the technical direction of Daniel Orusco.

The project combines family ownership with professional enology, positioning itself as a contemporary expression of a site with long local continuity.

Winemaking Approach

Cuarto Lote combines modern cellar design with controlled, low-intervention practices aimed at preserving freshness and balance. Particular emphasis is placed on natural temperature stability, supported by the site’s underground water system and well, reducing the need for aggressive mechanical cooling.

Technical decisions are framed as a response to place rather than as stylistic statements.

Why It Matters

Bodega Cuarto Lote adds a distinctive chapter to Madrid Wine Country by translating planned history and local legend into a contemporary winery, where narrative is inseparable from site. It demonstrates that Madrid’s wine identity includes not only villages and vineyards, but also towns conceived as ideas - where wine, history, and modern hospitality intersect without theatrical reconstruction.
