Donkey Business

Olmeda de las Fuentes · Madrid Countryside

“Working with horses is not about control. It’s about learning to listen - to the animal, to yourself, and to the environment you share.”

- Donkey Business

Place & Setting

Donkey Business is located just outside Olmeda de las Fuentes, one of Madrid’s most artistically charged and visually distinctive villages. The surrounding landscape is defined by open skies, soft hills, Mediterranean woodland, and an exceptional quality of light - the same elements that drew painters and sculptors to Olmeda in the mid-20th century.

This quiet, expansive environment is fundamental to the project: horses move calmly, people slow down instinctively, and interactions unfold without pressure. Unlike conventional riding centers, Donkey Business is intentionally integrated into the land. Trails lead directly into nature, paddocks are open and generous, and the setting encourages continuity between riding, walking, observing, and simply being present.

Founder & Vision

Donkey Business is founded and led by a deeply experienced horsewoman whose approach combines technical knowledge with emotional intelligence and long-term observation. Her philosophy departs from competitive or results-driven horsemanship, favoring instead a relationship-based model built on trust, consistency, and mutual understanding.

The project reflects a personal vision shaped by years of hands-on work with horses of different temperaments and backgrounds, as well as close attention to how humans learn, fear, relax, and grow. The owner’s role is not that of distant operator but of daily presence - guiding horses, riders, and instructors with the same calm authority.

Philosophy & Approach

At Donkey Business, horses are not tools; they are partners. Animals live in semi-liberty, socialized and mentally balanced, allowing their natural behavior to inform how they interact with people. Training emphasizes groundwork, posture, breathing, and awareness before riding technique, ensuring that confidence develops organically. The approach is deliberately non-aggressive and non-mechanical.

Progress is measured not in speed or difficulty, but in clarity, comfort, and connection. This philosophy makes the center equally suitable for beginners, experienced riders, children, and adults seeking reconnection rather than adrenaline.

Why It Matters

Donkey Business matters because it expands the definition of rural experiences in Madrid Wine Country. Just as certain wineries prioritize land, restraint, and continuity over spectacle, this project offers an alternative equestrian model grounded in respect and authenticity. It complements Olmeda de las Fuentes’ artistic heritage and the wider countryside’s slow, reflective character.

This is not a place to tick a box or chase thrills. It is a place to recalibrate, to reconnect with animals and landscape, and to leave changed — calmer, more attentive, and quietly transformed.
