Bodegas y Viñedos Pedro García

Colmenar de Oreja · Arganda Subzone · D.O. Vinos de Madrid

“We don’t invent anything here. We keep making wine the way it’s always been made - just with more care.”

- Francisco José García Paredes, winemaker and owner

Place & Heritage

Bodegas y Viñedos Pedro García is located in Colmenar de Oreja, one of Madrid’s most historically important wine villages, known for its extensive network of underground cellars carved into stone beneath the town.

The winery is built around centenary caves, restored and maintained by the family to continue their original function: protecting wine naturally through stable temperature and humidity. These are not symbolic spaces - they are still used today.

Family & Continuity

The winery was founded by Pedro García in 1931, whose name it still carries, and today remains in the hands of the Pedro García family, representing a direct continuation of village winemaking tradition.

The current generation has focused on preserving the cellar’s integrity while improving vineyard management and fermentation control, ensuring that tradition remains functional rather than nostalgic. Family presence is constant, both in the cellar and during visits.

Vineyards, Land & Grapes

Grape varieties include:

01

Tempranillo - the backbone of the reds

02

Garnacha - adding brightness and softness

03

Airén and Malvar - traditional white grapes of the area

Winemaking Philosophy

Winemaking at Pedro García is intentionally restrained.Fermentations take place in small vessels, often respecting traditional rhythms.

Aging is carried out partly in oak barrels and partly within the underground cellar, where natural conditions shape the wines slowly and evenly. Intervention is minimal, guided by observation rather than formula.

Wines

The wines of Pedro García are direct, honest, and village-driven. They prioritize balance over power, freshness over extraction, and drinkability over spectacle. These are wines made for the table, for conversation, and for repetition.

Village & Estate Expressions

Pedro García Malvar

A Malvar white that foregrounds freshness and varietal clarity

La Romera

A Tempranillo-led red blend; commonly seen as La Romera Roble in market references

Visiting the Winery

A visit to Pedro García is fundamentally an underground experience.
Visitors descend into the historic caves, walk through stone corridors still used for aging, and taste wines in the same environment where they mature.

Visits typically include:

• Explanation of Colmenar de Oreja’s cellar culture
• Walk through the restored underground spaces
• Tasting of current wines
• Discussion of village traditions and seasonal rhythms
Visits are by appointment, intimate, and deeply tied to place.

Why It Matters

Bodegas y Viñedos Pedro García matters because it preserves something increasingly rare: a working village cellar, still alive, still useful, still honest. It shows that Madrid Wine Country’s strength lies not only in innovation, but in continuity that never stopped.
