Belmonte de Tajo · Arganda Subzone · D.O. Vinos de Madrid

“From planting the vine to bottling and labeling our wines, every step is done by hand and within the family - a way of working begun by Andrés Morate and carried forward today by Esther and Marta Morate.”

Place & Heritage

Bodegas Andrés Morate is located in Belmonte de Tajo, within the Arganda subzone of D.O. Vinos de Madrid. It was born in 1999 as the first organic winery in the Community of Madrid.

The winery’s identity is rooted in dry-farmed vineyards at around 750 meters altitude, where exposure and continental temperature contrasts produce grapes with freshness and tension, not weight.

Family & Continuity

Bodegas Andrés Morate family

Bodegas Andrés Morate was founded by Andrés Morate Díaz, who developed the project to see the result of long-worked family vineyards expressed through organic viticulture and hands-on production.

Today the winery remains family-run: his daughters Esther Morate (enologist) and Marta Morate (managment) continue the work, combining technical execution with the family’s land-driven philosophy.

Winemaking Philosophy

Bodegas Andrés Morate’s approach is defined by restraint and clarity. Organic viticulture is paired with clean, careful cellar work so the wines read as precise and site-expressive rather than rustic.

Aging is used when it supports structure and character, not to impose weight.

Wines

The winery produces a focused range of wines that reflect both Chinchón’s history and contemporary restraint.

Visiting the Winery

A visit to Bodegas Andrés Morate is typically framed around understanding organic viticulture in Madrid’s southeast: how altitude, dry farming, and soil shape ripening and wine expression. Visits are by appointment, with experiences designed to connect vineyard choices to finished wines, from vineyard tour through tasting.

How to curate a meaningful visit:

• Begin with the philosophy of organic farming in this landscape
• Taste a white and an oak-aged red to see how altitude shapes both profiles
• Compare Esther Crianza alongside another red to appreciate structure and restraint

Why It Matters

Bodegas Andrés Morate matters because it proves a different kind of continuity inside Madrid Wine Country: not only underground cellars and historic villages, but also a long-running organic winery whose legacy spans founder Andrés Morate to his daughters Esther and Marta, carrying forward a land-first, family-rooted expression
