Bodega Andrés Díaz

Navalcarnero · Navalcarnero Subzone · D.O. Vinos de Madrid

“Before, we focused on bulk wine - but once we entered the D.O., everything changed, because it adds a real ‘plus’ of quality to everything you do.”

- Marcos Lucas Díaz, head of the winery (4th generation)

Place & Heritage

Bodega Andrés Díaz is based in Navalcarnero (Calle Palencia 32), one of the historic wine towns of southwest Madrid. The winery is notably described as “one of the few urban wineries left in the region,” meaning it lives inside the town’s daily fabric rather than on an isolated estate.

The project is family-rooted and locally anchored: the winery and vineyards are situated in the municipal area of Navalcarnero, within the D.O.’s smallest subzone by surface area - yet one with a strong identity and long-standing wine culture.

Family & Continuity

Today the winery is led by Marcos Lucas Díaz, described as fourth in the succession line, who has run the bodega since 2010 - also the year its wines entered the D.O. Vinos de Madrid.

The continuity isn’t symbolic: the bodega works with 56 hectares of its own vineyards and also sources grapes from local growers - some relationships dating back to his grandparents’ era, according to Lucas.

Vineyards, Land & Grapes

Key grape varieties (as publicly emphasized) include:

01

Garnacha - a defining red variety of the subzone

02

Malvar - a traditional Madrid white variety of the subzone

03

Garnacha tintorera - highlighted by Lucas as an “autochthonous recovery” focus and a signature flavor memory for Madrid drinkers

Winemaking Philosophy

The winery frames itself as a blend of tradition and modernity, keeping certain older practices for their natural logic. One clear example: they continue fermenting in concrete vats (tinas de hormigón), described as a more natural process, while also pursuing innovation to reach newer audiences.

Their north star is not fashion - it’s continuity with uplift: using the D.O. framework as a quality lever while keeping a distinctly local taste profile Lucas calls “flavor of Madrid.”

Visiting the Winery

Bodega Andrés Díaz positions visits as part of its identity: if you want to come, they explicitly invite you to call - highlighting that they are an urban winery and they’re “happy to receive you.” Opening hours and contact details are clearly provided for planning.

How to curate a meaningful visit:
• Start with the urban-winery story - why Navalcarnero still has bodegas inside town
• Taste reds with a focus on garnacha tintorera and the “Madrid flavor” idea
• Ask specifically about concrete-vat fermentation and what it changes in texture and fruit

Why It Matters

Bodega Andrés Díaz matters because it’s a living bridge between Navalcarnero’s wine past and Madrid’s new-generation quality push. It combines:

  • deep local continuity (family succession, long grower ties)
  • real vineyard scale (56 ha reported), and
  • a clear stylistic mission rooted in the tastes and memories of Madrid - while still modernizing under the D.O. umbrella.
