Bodegas y Viñedos ValleYglesias

San Martín de Valdeiglesias · San Martín Subzone · D.O. Vinos de Madrid

“Our wines are made with minimal intervention so the terroir and old vines can speak for themselves.”

- ValleYglesias philosophy

Place & Landscape

Bodegas y Viñedos ValleYglesias is located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, in the western foothills of the Sierra de Gredos. The surrounding landscape is marked by granite outcrops, pine forests, and mountain-influenced vineyards, forming one of the most distinctive natural settings in the D.O. Vinos de Madrid.

The area benefits from altitude and strong day–night temperature variation, conditions that help preserve freshness and aromatic definition in the grapes. Soils are predominantly granitic, poor in nutrients and well drained, naturally limiting vigor and shaping wines with tension and clarity.

Origins & Continuity

ValleYglesias is a family-run project led by Fernando Ocaña and Luis Ocaña. Fernando is responsible for vineyard work and winemaking, while Luis oversees hospitality and the gastronomic side of the project.Together, they have developed ValleYglesias as a place where wine production and visitor experience are closely linked.

The project combines local viticultural tradition with a contemporary approach to enotourism, inviting visitors to understand not only the wines, but also the landscape and decisions behind them.

Vineyards, Land & Grapes

Viticulture emphasizes respect for natural vine behavior, with vinification and aging choices aimed at preserving freshness and site expression.

Key grape varieties include:

01

Garnacha - the backbone of the red wines

02

Syrah and Tempranillo - used in specific blends

03

Albillo Real - the main white variety from the area

04

Malvar - used in certain white wines, sourced from Valdilecha

Winemaking Philosophy

The winemaking approach at ValleYglesias is based on transparency and restraint. Fermentations and aging are adapted to each wine, using vessels and techniques selected to support structure without masking origin.

The goal is to allow vineyard character, altitude, and soil to remain clearly perceptible in the glass.

Visiting the Winery

A visit to ValleYglesias is designed as a complete vineyard-to-glass experience. Visits typically include a walk through the vineyards, an explanation of the winemaking and barrel-aging areas, and a guided tasting of the wines accompanied by snacks.

The project also operates a restaurant in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, allowing visitors to pair local cuisine with the wines. Visits are by appointment and often tailored to small groups, with an emphasis on understanding landscape, process, and style rather than spectacle.

Why It Matters

ValleYglesias brings the high-altitude, granite-driven identity of western Madrid wine within direct reach of visitors. By combining hands-on winemaking with an open, educational visit format, it helps translate the character of San Martín de Valdeiglesias into wines that are both expressive and approachable, reinforcing the role of this area as a key part of modern Madrid Wine Country.
